Outdoor kitchen masonry in Waco, TX usually means a grill island. That's a block core with a brick or stone surround and a countertop on top. Most folks call after putting it off for a few summers of cooking on a rolling cart, wishing they had real counter space by the grill.

The surround is one of the biggest choices in the price. The length of the countertop and how far the island sits from the house move it too. I walk the job with you and put the work in writing, so you see where your money goes before we start.

The schedule turns on your grill and the permit. Pick the grill early, because we build the island around its install guide and plan where the gas, water and power come from before we lay anything. When the job needs a permit, we pull it and line up the inspections.

Expect a straight answer on what your island needs and a clean patio when we leave, so call (254) 327-1950 to get started.

Outdoor kitchen masonry we build

Every island starts with your grill, your patio and the look you want, so we choose the core, the surround and the counter to fit all three.

  • Brick surround

Brick over a block core gives the island the look of your house. We can carry it into a low seat wall with our brick wall installation.

  • Stone surround

We set natural stone or manufactured stone, which looks like natural stone but is made from concrete. Hold samples of both side by side before you pick.

  • Block core and countertop

Under the face sits a concrete block core. Filling some of its hollow cores with grout adds strength under a heavy countertop.

Why homeowners call Craftsman Wacofor outdoor kitchens and patio masonry

I spent years on a restaurant line before I learned masonry, so I build an island the way a cook uses one and tell you straight when something doesn't need doing.

  • I look at every job myself

I come out, size up the job and write the estimate. Then I run the work on site alongside our crew of masons and helpers.

  • Laid out by a former cook

I worked restaurant lines before brick, so I ask where the plates land, where the trash goes and where you'll stand before we draw anything.

  • Licensed, insured and glad to show it

We're licensed and fully insured. I'll bring the paperwork to the estimate so you don't have to take my word for it.

  • In business since 2021

I learned the trade under a local mason and started this business in 2021. We're known for outdoor work that looks like it belongs where it's built.

  • Right the first time, then clean

In a kitchen, a plate that goes out wrong comes right back, so we get it right the first time and leave your yard clean. Your satisfaction, guaranteed.

Call to first cookouthow we build your island

I keep it simple. The same person looks at the job, writes the estimate and runs the work, so you're never explaining it twice.

  1. Call or send the form

Call (254) 327-1950 or send the form with where the island goes and the grill you want. We'll get back to you to set a visit.

  2. I come out and look

I walk your patio and ask how you cook and what you want. Then I give you a written estimate that spells out the surround, the core, the counter and the hookups.

  3. Materials and permit

Once you say go, we line up the block, brick or stone and pull any permit the job needs. We also get your grill's install guide in hand.

  4. Prep and build

We prep the site, lay the core and set the surround and countertop. The gas, water and power runs stay open until the city's rough inspection clears them.

  5. Walk it together

At the end I walk the island with you and check that the grill drops in right. We haul off our scraps, so your patio's ready to cook on.

Outdoor kitchen questions

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Waco, TX?

Building a custom outdoor kitchen across the US usually costs about $10,000 to $35,000 total, and that's a national figure, not our price. A solid brick island in a custom design sits toward the top of that range, and long countertops push the number up. Your estimate puts your own number in writing.

Do I need a permit to build an outdoor kitchen in Waco?

Most likely, yes. The City of Waco's Inspection Services issues permits for all residential construction and remodeling, and the city wants one before you build, alter or renovate a property. The city also inspects the rough gas, plumbing and electrical runs before they're covered up and before the grill or sink goes in. Anyone doing that plumbing, electrical or mechanical work has to register with the city and show a state license for it. We pull the permit, line up the inspections and check with the office for your address before we start.

What is the best way to build a grill island, mortared or dry-stacked block?

Both are standard ways to lay the core. National masonry guidance says dry-stacking is faster, and it depends less on the crew's skill. Dry-stacked block goes down without mortar and then gets a coating on both faces, and that coating holds up well to rain on an island that lives outdoors. Under either method the ground matters here. A 2001 McLennan County soil survey says the deeper clay soils swell and push both up and sideways, and that shale often slumps on the steep slopes along the edge of Lake Waco. I'll tell you which method I'd use on your patio when I come out.

How do I get gas, water and power to an outdoor kitchen?

If you put the kitchen a few steps from the house, on the patio you already have, it can share the home's gas, water and electrical lines. That cuts the plumber's and electrician's hours, so where the island sits shapes the hookup bill. If you'd rather build farther out, our walkway construction can tie the island back to the house.

How close can a grill sit to brick, stone or wood in an outdoor kitchen?

Your grill maker's install guide decides that, and it varies by grill. One maker's guide requires its insulated jacket around the grill whenever combustible material sits within 24 inches of the grill frame. The same guide calls for at least two vents in the island, whether it's built of combustible material or not. That's why I ask for your grill and its guide before we draw the island.

Does an outdoor kitchen estimate include the gas line?

Not always, so ask before you compare numbers. One national price guide leaves gas and propane hookups out of its island prices, so check every quote you get for it. I write on your estimate whether the hookup is in or out.
